Furniture & Home Goods Air Freight from China

Sofas, cabinets, mattresses, mirrors and home decor — oversized-friendly cargo measured, braced and palletised in our Shenzhen warehouse, with honest advice on when air beats sea.

Home cargo

What We Ship

Furniture is the classic "bulky but light" cargo. We size each piece before booking so you know exactly what you will be charged for.

Sofas & seating

Upholstered sofas loveseats and armchairs, compressed and film-wrapped to cut volume.

Cabinets & wardrobes

Flat-pack kitchen units, wardrobes and shelving in strong cartons.

Mattresses & beds

Rolled foam mattresses and bed frames, netted and strapped to pallets.

Glass & mirrors

Mirrors, glass tabletops and framed art crated separately to prevent breakage.

Home decor & lighting

Lamps, vases, wall art and small decor — often combined with textiles.

Small home goods

Compact items that fill the gaps around bulky pieces on a pallet.

Volumetric weight

Oversize & Volumetric Weight

A sofa weighs 85 kg but takes the space of 160 kg of cargo. Airlines bill the greater figure — so packing that reduces volume directly reduces your bill.

Our warehouse compresses upholstered items with straps and film, removes detachable legs and arms where the factory allows it, and nests tables and chairs so the outer dimensions shrink. For glass, mirror and framed pieces we build separate ISPM-15 crates rather than trying to squeeze them into a soft carton. After packing we re-measure every piece and quote on the final dimensions, so the volumetric weight in your invoice matches what we actually booked — no surprises at the airport.

What this means for furniture

Volumetric weight (kg) = L × W × H in cm ÷ 6000. Compressing sofas, removing legs, nesting tables and rolling mattresses all lower the chargeable weight. We show you the math in the quote. See the full oversize & heavy freight guide.

Protection

Crating & Protection

How we secure it

  • Stretch film and corner boards on upholstered pieces
  • Glass / mirror panels crated with foam separators
  • Wooden cartons and ISPM-15 crates for fragile items
  • Palletising, strapping and shrink wrap
  • "Fragile / This Way Up" orientation marks

Air vs sea honesty

For container-loads of low-density furniture, sea or rail usually wins on cost. We compare transit time vs price on our multimodal page so urgent pieces fly and bulk stock sails.

FAQ

Furniture Shipping Questions

Can sofas and cabinets really be shipped by air from China?
Yes — upholstered sofas compress well and flat-pack cabinets travel in strong cartons. Bulky furniture is billed on volumetric weight, and we advise when sea/rail is cheaper for very large pieces.
How is furniture protected for air freight?
Film wrap, braced corners, glass/mirror crated separately, ISPM-15 wooden crates where needed, and palletised strapping so pieces cannot shift on the ULD.
When is air freight not the best choice for furniture?
For very bulky, low-density items or large quantities, sea or rail is usually cheaper despite longer transit. We compare routes honestly — see multimodal options.
